Central Railway Station of Sofia is the stopping point for most people travelling to Sofia by train. It is the city’s main passenger railway station, and the largest one in the country. The train station is located at Knyaginya Maria Louise Blvd. on your way to Sofia city centre you will pass by the famous Lions bridge.
The railway station is located 2 km north of the city centre and its a close proximity to the Central Bus Station makes it convenient to get anywhere in Sofia or in Bulgaria. There are actually two bus stations – The Central Bus Station where you can find busses that go to domestic routes within the country – plovdiv, Bansko, Varna, Bourgas, Sliven, Rouse, Pleven, etc. The other Bus station is where the International buses are stoping. The international bus station is smaller and it is located right infront of the Central Railway Station of Sofia. The central Bus station is located 200 meters away.
When you cross the road before the railway station you can find bus and tram stops where you can use the public transportation to get to the town center. On your way out of the Central Railway Station you may encounter taxi drivers that will offer you a ride. Make sure you see the taxi rates before you take the taxi.
The central railway station is a region where you will see a lot of suspisios people, so please pay attention to your personal belongings. Although crime activities at the Central railway station are very rare you will see lots of police officers guarding the perimeter. The Central Railway station is also open during the night, but we do not recommend staying there until the morning. You better check the nearby hotels.
