Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard which means Tsar Liberator Boulevard is a boulevard in the very heart of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is Sofia’s most central area and many government institutions and points of interest are located on this boulevard.
The tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard lies between Eagle’s Bridge to the east and Nezavisimost Square to the west. It is named after Tsar Alexander II of Russia, referred to as the “Tsar Liberator” because of his role in the Liberation of Bulgaria.
Some of Sofia and Bulgaria’s institutions and representative buildings that are located on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard are: (from west to east): The Presidency, The former Communist party house, The National Archeological Museum and Institute, The Bulgarian National Bank, The national Art Gallery and Ethnographic museum, St. Nikolas Russian Ortodox church, the Military club, the Bulgarian Academy of science, Tsar Osvoboditel Monument, Sofia University, the Soviet Army Memorial and Eagle’s bridge.
