Its reputation of a cosmopolitan and artistic European city modern Sofia owes to a great extent to the range of international and national forums – music, film, art, and folk festivals and art salons. The rituals and customs related to celebrations of national and religious fests or anniversaries of significant historic events are equally curious to the visitor of the capital.

Festivals
Sofia Music Weeks International Festival is the most remarkable music event in Sofia, and Bulgaria as well. Its annual program takes place in May and June. In 1982 the Sofia Music Weeks festival is a member of the European Festivals Association (EFA) joined by the most prestigious festivals of music, theatre and ballet in Europe.

Sofia Film Fest International Festival is held in Sofia annually in March. It won recognition as an authoritative forum of alternative, European, independent and creative cinema.

The European Music Festival is held in March–April and in the recent years earned pretty good popularity among the connoisseurs of classical music.

Interarch World Triannual of Architecture brings together some of the great personalities of the world architectural elite. Chairman of the academic council of the International Academy of Architecture is Bulgarian architect Georgi Stoilov.

Art Digital Festival is a forum of contemporary art at which works of the experimental theatre, multimedia, installations, computer design, electronically-acoustic compositions, etc. are presented. It takes place in the middle of June, in the exhibition halls of the Union of Bulgarian Artists at 6 Shipka Street.

At the Sofia’s international folk Vitosha Festival traditional dances and music of the peoples are performed. It is held in July each year, on open-air stages in front of the National Theater and in some of the capital’s quarters.

The Young Musical Talents Festival takes place each September in the Bulgaria Hall. It aims at enhancing the creation and distribution of Bulgarian composers’ works.

The Sprite Graffiti Fest brings together young people from many countries fond of one of the most provocative urban arts, that of drawing graffiti. It is held annually in June in the public garden around NDK.
