You can enjoy four seasons weather in Bulgaria– beautiful spring, dry & hot summer, long & pleasant autumn and cold & snowy winter with opportunity for skiing.

The predominant climate in Bulgaria is moderate and transitional-continental. The climate in Northern Bulgaria is moderate continental, while the climate in Southern Bulgaria is intermediate continental tending to Mediterranean. The weather in the regions with an altitude more than 1000 meters above the sea level is mountainous and along the Black Sea coast it is maritime.

There are 2,000 to 2,400 hours of sunlight per year. During the summer the temperature ranges between 16°C and 27°C. In the winter the average day-time temperature in Sofia ranges between -4°C and 2°C. Abundant snowfalls may occur throughout the country from December to mid-March, especially if you are in the mountainous areas of Bulgaria.

Along the Black Sea, the average January temperature ranges between -1°C and 6°C, and the July temperature ranges between 21°C and 30°C.

 

What to wear in Bulgaria

Lightweights are worn in summer on the coast and in low inland areas. Warmer clothes are needed in winter and throughout the year in the uplands. Rainwear is recommended throughout the year and especially in the autumn.
